Baptism

In the dream it may be the baptism of another person, child or adult, or you may be the one baptized. In either case, though, the meaning refers to you.

Whatever the particular form of the baptism, the principal symbolism is that of death and resurrection / rebirth, the ending of one stage of life and the beginning of another, or the letting go of something in order to take hold of something new and (for you, now) better.

Baptism may be a symbol of self-realization. Through the death of the old and false (because partial) self-image, a new self- the true self- is achieved. (In the religious ritual of baptism the immersion in water represents death and the emergence from the water represents resurrection, new life. The myth of the Flood shows baptismal symbolism on a cosmic scale: water and fire arc the great purifiers, making new life-forms possible by destroying the old.) To dream of baptism, signifies that your character needs strengthening by the practice of temperance in advocating your opinions to the disparagement of your friends.

To dream that you are an applicant, signifies that you will humiliate your inward self for public favor.

To dream that you see John the Baptist baptizing Christ in the Jordan, denotes that you will have a desperate mental struggle between yielding yourself to labor in meagre capacity for the sustenance of others, or follow desires which might lead you into wealth and exclusiveness.

To see the Holy Ghost descending on Christ, is significant of resignation to duty and abnegation of self.

If you are being baptized with the Holy Ghost and fire, means that you will be thrown into a state of terror over being discovered in some lustful engagement.

The presence of a baptism in a dream augurs the beginning of a love or total transformation of a relationship. The protagonist of the event will tell you the nature of the new birth. On the other hand, the person or the baby being baptized can also represent yourself. Your higher self is blessing the next step of your life: your hopes and purposes.

It is ultimately the rebirth of your attitudes and the approach of others. The old and negative, in this respect, dies. So, you will soon get fortune and satisfaction. Likewise, the dream has a spiritual interpretation when referring to the renewal of your faith in God.

If in the dream you drink the holy water of baptism you will become a great and famous singer.
