To dream of a fire is evidence that your current situation is reaching a dangerous limit. The image of a house or forest burning indicates that you should destroy memories, prejudices, and all that is a hindrance to your progress and renewal.

FIRE - analysis of the dream

Laura dreamed: “I was on my bed surrounded by flames. The fire was all over my bedroom devastating everything, burning all of my belongings... but I was not able to move, I was paralyzed by fear. Suddenly, I noticed that the fire was not hurting me, the flames caressed my skin without burning me. That made me smile and I thought: ‘My skin is like an asbestos suit. I am fireproof.’ I left my bedroom by walking through the flames, whistling, convinced of being endowed with a magical power against fire.”

Dreaming of fire may indicate that your reserves of both energy and enthusiasm are in crisis. You might be facing a situation that puts you to the test in real life.

If the dream’s fire is well received, it is encouraging you to be more optimistic about your difficulties. When Laura had this dream she was going through a difficult domestic situation: her daughter had just been born, she had to take care of her mother who had a broken femur, and she was about to get seriously depressed. Fire was encouraging her to be more optimistic and energetic. The uncontrollable fire was telling Laura to act with precaution and a more relaxed attitude.

A dream in which you end up being safe and sound after an encounter with fire, like the phoenix, indicates growth in the face of difficulties. Alchemists used fire to transform the simple metal into gold, so it is a symbol of inner transformation. This element can purge corruption from the past, provide light, and reveal spiritual truth.

It is the eternal flame in the temple of the soul.

In dreams, fire reflects your feelings of love and hate, the forces of creation and destruction. Thus, a small well lit fire indicates desire for a lasting love or friendship. That which has been burned is transmuted back into the substance that is the underlying material from which anything can be created anew.

There can be many different colors present with fire and these can be explored in your interpretation process. Red flames can represent passion, frustration, or aggression, as well as issues of security. Orange connects to sexuality; yellow to emotions; green to healing; and blue to communication issues. What is burning is likely the most important focus of your investigation. If it is something you are familiar with, it may indicate that a major transformation is occurring in your life in the arena represented by that thing. A house on fire connects to a transformation in your personal identity. A public building relates more to your social identity. An object that you possess could be explored and the meaning you associate with it can be combined with the idea of radical change in that area. A fire in nature might point to a loss of resources, nurturing, or creativity. If someone dies in a fire, that Character Aspect will inform you of what part of yourself is being sacrificed in order for a new sense of self to emerge.

The size of the fire and your emotional response to it will illuminate issues of overwhelm and loss of control. A large fire that is out of control could indicate broad-based changes are underway, which will result in a total dissolution of the old landscape of your life. A contained fire could indicate the change will be manageable, or even intentional. An outdoor campfire could represent your ability to create powerful change out of limited resources. A fireplace or woodburning stove often relates to harnessing change to your benefit or pleasure.

While fire is dangerous and violent, it has the power to purify and create space for renewal and new growth. When it appears in a dream, be aware that great change is afoot and that the future is likely to bring new life and new possibility.
