Dream Sight: A Dictionary and Guide for Interpreting Any Dream
by Dr. Michael LennoxDreaming Lens: Were you using drugs in your dream? Was someone else? What types of drugs were involved? Were they legal or illegal substances? Were you transporting drugs? Were you in search of them? Were you in danger? Was the experience pleasurable? How much self-control did you exhibit?
Personal Focus: All drugs dramatically alter the experience of the individual taking them. Hence, they represent a shift in consciousness that is controlled by the user and is instantaneous. Also inherent in considering this symbol is the matter of consequences. When many substances are abused, especially recreational drugs, there is a disregard of the potential harm they can cause and the often-challenging aftereffects of their use. The desire for the high outweighs the difficulties that result from the overindulgence. When this appears as a theme in a dream, there may be a life situation where you are looking for the quick fix rather than the more difficult path of meeting things with authenticity and conscious awareness.
Mood and mind-altering drugs fall into different classes, and each is responsible for different sensations. Your interpretation should reflect these distinctions. Narcotics create euphoria and imply an aversion to pain and a desire to numb the emotions. Stimulants amplify energy and correlate with a need for increased focus, attentiveness, and a sense of personal power. Sedatives relieve anxiety and are a symbolic buffer to life’s stresses. Marijuana and other organic psychedelics connect to expansion of consciousness and alcohol represents a desire to release inhibitions. If any of these substances appear in a dream, focus your interpretation on the symbolic effects rather than the sensations they produce.
Examine your personal relationship with substances when considering the meaning of them in your dream. The person who uses drugs in waking life has a very different perspective than someone who does not. Therefore, drugs can be a symbol that has a moral dilemma attached to it, or not, depending on this personal perspective. Permissiveness aside, the legal status of most abused drugs implies strong consequences that go above and beyond the personal experience of using them.
Not all drugs are mind or mood altering, so the meaning you assign this symbol must reflect the desired shift the drug in your dream promises to deliver. Health issues in your waking life may be sparking unconscious desires for quick and instant healing. If the drug is pharmaceutical in nature, look to a circumstance that is in need of healing and consider if your dream is expressing a desire for a fast process of change.
My Dream Interpretation
by myjellybeanIf you dream of hiding your drug-taking from someone, especially a parent, you have been keeping a secret that will hurt you if you don’t let it out.
If you dream that someone pressures you to take drugs, beware of that person in real life because they are a bad influence.
The same as the above is true if you dream that someone gave you drugs without your knowledge. This dream may also suggest that you are stubbornly ignoring facts that are staring you right in the face.
If you dreamed of being drugged to the extent that it interfered with, or altered, your normal movements and/or behavior, it is a warning that there is active jealousy around you from someone who would not only be ready and willing to take advantage of any mistake you might make but might even try to mislead you into making one. Be extra careful of your actions following this dream.
A dream of giving or selling drugs suggests that you have some dishonesty around you - rethink who your current friends are.
If your dream featured someone else who possessed drugs or took drugs, it is telling you to stop drifting and take a more positive role in your life.
If you dreamed of you or someone else overdosing on drugs, it is a serious warning that your behavior has become self-destructive. You need to take a more positive approach to dealing with your problems and set your eyes on your future, or you will end up sabotaging yourself and not getting what you want.
