The Big Dictionary of Dreams

by Martha Clarke
Searching anxiously for refuge for protection from the inclement environment, or from persecution, indicates a state of insecurity, and the need to search for help and protection. The dreamer could have been rejected socially and feel isolated on the emotional plane, or they may be searching to protect themselves from disloyal and false people that surround them. In the same manner, the dream denotes a great desire to evade problems. Fleeing, of course, reduces the probability that they will be resolved.

Dreaming of displaced peoples, for whatever reason, foretells failure of well conceived plans.

A Dictionary of Dream Symbols

by Eric Ackroyd
Taking refuge may be a good thing or a bad. Simply running away and hiding is useless: the threats and problems remain, and worsen. On the other hand, if finding a refuge means discovering a depth of yourself where you can fully love (accept and forgive) yourself, that may be all that is needed to dissolve a guilt- or inferiority-complex, or anger or envy.

The significance of the refuge will obviously depend largely on what you are taking refuge from.
