If you dreamed of a knot or tying a knot and are aware of the practice of tying a knot so you don’t forget to do something, your dream may have been reminding you to carry out some important task in your waking life. Alternatively, tying the knot is a symbol of marriage or entering into a relationship.

If you find yourself unable to untangle a dream knot in a string, cable, cord, elastic or shoelace, was your unconscious telling you that you are tying yourself in knots or that you are responsible for the current muddle in your waking life? If you dreamed of knots that you find impossible to untie, such as the string on a parcel or entwined fishing nets, this may have represented a knotty or complicated problem that is holding you back in waking life. Your dream may tell you whether or not these problems will defeat you or whether you will solve them.

If you lose your patience in your dream, the dream may in fact be urging you to have more patience. Mystery packages, parcels and containers that you cannot open in your dreams may also highlight aspects of your personality that you are denying; the appearance of the dream package may give you a clue about its nature. For example, if it was gift-wrapped, this may suggest a gift or talent you have repressed. A dream treasure chest that you cannot open may also suggest potential emotional riches lying just within.

The Big Dictionary of Dreams

Knots in a dream means you are subjected to some form of tether, i.e., any impairment that is delaying or limiting your projects. You are tied to the circumstances, prisoners of the environment. You feel coerced and lack enthusiasm, which limits your creativity. According to other interpretations, the knots represent the problems we are trying to solve. Furthermore, they can also symbolize the union of two people or the feminine and masculine aspects of our personality.

The popular superstition has always associated knots with problems. For example, at a wedding, the bride should wear a shoe lace loose to scare off witches who want to “untie” her virginity. Similarly, in Scotland, it is believed that the body of a deceased person may not be placed in the coffin if there are any lumps in their clothes. This would prevent their spirit from resting in peace. In oneiric terms, this dream portends that you will run into issues that will trigger anxiety.

To help the knight into the saddle is a promise of happiness. But if he is getting off the horse it predicts you will lose a friend. The medieval knight is a symbol of love affairs.

Islamic Dream Interpretation

by Ibn Seerin
(Bond, Bridge, Contract, Liaison, Tie) To make a knot in one’s shirt in a dream means engaging in business. Tying a knot with a rope in a dream represents one’s religious commitment. Tying a knot with a handkerchief in a dream means giving fringe benefits to a servant or to an employee. Tying a belt over a pair of pants in a dream means marriage. Tying a knot with a thread in a dream means asserting one’s intention, or stipulating one’s plan, or it could mean sorcery and an evil spell. Ifone sees himselftying a rope or a thread around a pouch or a bag and could not open it again, and if an unknown person comesby and unties the knot in the dream, it means distress, stress, uptightness, or suffering from political persecution, or financial adversities that will be lifted unexpectedly by God’s leave.
