Dream Sight: A Dictionary and Guide for Interpreting Any Dream

by Dr. Michael Lennox
Universal Landscape: Harnessed power; manageable transformation.

Dreaming Lens: Where was the fireplace? Was it functioning properly? What was it made of? Was there a fire in it? Was there a specific purpose connected to the fire? Were you making the fire? Were you enjoying it?

Personal Focus: A fireplace is a man-made construction designed to take the amazing power offered by a fire and contain it in such a way to provide any number of services. Fire represents change and transformation on an enormous scale. However, when it is enclosed in a safe and durable structure, that force of change becomes both highly effective and specifically focused.

The usable power of fire is in a very small window of the continuum on which it exists. A small fire does little more than look pretty. Just a little too much, though, and the danger is life threatening and enormously destructive. A fireplace is the organizing principle around which great power can be harnessed to accomplish a very specific goal.

The original use of a fireplace was as a household tool. The hearth was the center of a home, providing both protective warmth and facilitating the nurturance of the family through cooking food. If this is the apparent function of the fireplace in your dream, use the Dreaming Lens to examine your current relationship to taking care of your basic needs to ensure that they are being met.

If the fireplace in your dream is clearly just for ambient purposes, then its presence may indicate a desire for being able to manage the changes that are happening in your life. If your dream fireplace is being under utilized, then consider where your life is asking you to step up the power to change. If the fire is overtaking the fireplace’s capacity, then you may want to examine your current ability to manage the transformation that is taking place. (See also Fire).
