Dreams of cosmetics symbolize that you feel the need to embellish your natural way of being, that you desire to attract attention, or to cover up perceived flaws so that you will appear better than you actually are. This dream may be revealing your public persona versus your true self or your feelings about self. In tribal ceremony, make-up or face paint was used to evoke, pay homage to, or celebrate certain deities or aspects of yourself.

If make-up is excessive it can be a mask that hides the vulnerability of the true self that lies within. Dreams of make-up also represent a desire to stand out, to participate in this world and play the game called life. Each cosmetic has it’s own meaning.

1- To be using cosmetics in a dream can have two meanings. There is a need either to register the fact that we are covering up our features or that conversely we are enhancing our natural beauty.

If we are using cosmetics on someone else, we literally need to ‘make up’ with that person.

2- Psychologically we may feel that we have a problem with our public image, and need to put on some sort of front before we can be seen bv others.

3- The personality can show itself in many guises.

For a woman, a dream of using or buying cosmetics is a very fortu- nate omen, and also for a man, providing the cos- metics were appropriate for a male; but if a man dreams of using or buying women’s cosmetics, it is a warning of possible busi- ness or professional re- verses due to loss of repu- tation, and he would be well advised to reconsider his current activities and/ or choice of companions.
