Receiving a text message can represent the idea of hearing from someone or suddenly becoming aware of something.

Texting relates to the notion of instantaneous communication and the desire to get your thoughts connected to another person with a sense of immediacy. Texting has become such a standard part of modern society that it may have very little symbolic meaning beyond this desire to make an instant connection.
