SATYR

1- When man was less civilised than he is now; his animal nature was closer to the surface. It was possible for him to see and identify patterns of energy or spirits both in himself and in nature which then took on human or semi-human form.

The satyr is one such form, and is a male spirit connected with nature at its lowest. While most of the time in the waking state we suppress such figures, in dreams where there is no conscious control they will sometimes appear.

2- From a psychological standpoint the satyr is that part of nature which is out of control, and beyond restraint. It owes allegiance to no-one and is completely anarchic.

If perceived as destructive then it will be so.

If accepted as helpful then it will be equally obliging.

3- The satyr is a spirit of nature and of natural power.

Depicted as having the head of a man and the lower body of a goat, this creature represents the untamed nature within, especially procreative instincts.

Animalistic impulses and humankind s greater connection to the animal kingdom.

Biblically: An emblem of destruction and barrenness (Is 13:21), probably due to the connection between this image and various frolicsome pagan deities, including Faunus and Pan.
