Consider the relationship of the action to its result in the dream, then look for a parallel set of events in your real life, fears, or imagination.

For example, harvesting apples after a long growth cycle might represent your desire for a long-term stock payoff, or receiving a parking ticket while parked illegally might represent a fear of getting in trouble for breaking a rule.
