Maggots

Maggots are flies in the larval stage that feed on decomposing flesh and therefore have a connection to disgust and decay. This is a classic example of a symbol that has a disgusting image but a numinous meaning. There are some implications to the presence of maggots, and the first is that something has recently died. Death is a symbol for transformation and change, so maggots imply that a change has recently taken place. Maggots are instrumental in the process of turning flesh into the nutrients to support future life.

If you dream of maggots, you are in the process of coming out of a change that has taken place in the past.

Physical, emotional, or mental: Festering or rotting, as when a situation or feeling that needs attention has not been dealt with.

The results of a messy or “stinking” situation.

Something you consider undesirable or unclean.

Making “treasure out of trash” (being resourceful, or using what you have to your best ability).

Dreaming of this creature can represent too much or not enough of one of those qualities, or someone or something you associate with the quality or creature.

Consider also the animal’s actions, context, and your feelings about it.

1- Maggots appearing in dreams in their correct context can represent the feelings we have about death.

If a fisherman was using maggots we would be referring to power and energy, but if someone else was using maggots, their use of nastiness might be in question.

2- Maggots can represent impurities in the bodv and the sense of being eaten up by something of having something within our body- such as an idea or feeling - that is alien to us and can therefore overtake and overcome us.

3- Maggots in dreams may reflect our own fears about death and illness.
