Dream Sight: A Dictionary and Guide for Interpreting Any Dream
by Dr. Michael LennoxDreaming Lens: Was the helicopter in flight or on the ground? Were you flying in it or were you watching one from the ground? Was the helicopter crashing as part of your dream? Were you piloting it, or were you a passenger? Was it a private helicopter, or part of law enforcement or the media?
Personal Focus: Like any vehicle or mode of transportation, a helicopter in a dream represents movement on your path in life. However, a helicopter is primarily connected to its ability to move up and down, hover, and move swiftly while staying close to the ground. Because of this, it is often used for observation or transportation across very short distances in a very fast manner. In a dream, it represents these same concepts as they relate to consciousness: the vantage point to observe the lay of the land more effectively and the ability to jump from one place to another with ease and speed.
While similar to an airplane’s connection to fast transitions in life, a helicopter gives you a much greater degree of personal control over the different options they offer. In the realm of transitions, they symbolize a shift that is rapid, but not necessarily dramatic. A helicopter cannot travel the far distances that an airplane can, so the transition that is represented is more akin to shifting your perspective within the same landscape as opposed to completely changing your environment. A helicopter leaves you quite exposed to the elements, making the process one of vulnerability and a bit frightening.
A helicopter on the ground may indicate a powerful resource on hand, such that when change does inevitably come, you will be able to handle whatever direction you find yourself needing to go. A crashing helicopter could be pointing to the danger that comes from too much power or too many choices, or a lack of restraint or discipline. If you are traveling in a helicopter, you may be dreaming about some fairly significant shift in perspective going on in your life. Your unconscious mind is telling you to hold on—that although it may be somewhat frightening, you are actually well-armed with lots of choices, power, and possibilities.
