Universal Landscape: Emotional expressiveness.

Dreaming Lens: Was there a fountain in your dream? Was it flowing with water, or dried up? Was size was it? Was it in a public or private place? Was it from an earlier time period? Did you use it in any way?

Personal Focus: Because a fountain is a water fixture, it is important to work with the symbolic meaning of water when working with a fountain. This is so even if the fountain was devoid of water in your dream (see Water).

At its core, water represents the emotions. How the water behaves gives color and shading to the meaning you discover. A fountain manages and manipulates the water that flows through it. In this way, the fountain represents the ability to manage the emotions. Since many fountains inspire a sense of tranquility, they embody this ability to take an emotional experience and process it in such a way that keeps the integrity of the water and allows it to move with grace and ease. It has no need to make the water disappear and a fountain only does what it is capable of. In the real world of human emotions, this is very difficult to accomplish. A dream with a fountain in it may be compensating for waking life emotions that are a bit overwhelming.

The size and scope of the fountain in your dream, as well as the amount of water involved, should be applied to your interpretations as a barometer of the situations that may be inspiring it. Because they are decorative and are often placed strategically for others to see, a fountain in a dream may be revealing a desire to be more restrained with your emotional expression in social or public settings. From the opposite perspective, it could be your unconscious showing you that your sedate and charming expression of feelings may be too constricted. Look to both the Dreaming Lens and your current life circumstances for a more effective interpretation.

General Meaning: A fountain is a picture of the things that come out of your spirit. You release what is inside of your spirit through words or actions. Depending on what comes out is a picture of what is really in your heart.

• Positive: A fountain that is clean and pure means that you are full of the life of Christ. You are a blessing to God’s people and the Lord can use you to minister.

• Proverbs 18:4 The words of a man’s mouth [are like] deep waters, a fountain of wisdom that gushes forth like a brook.

• If you have a dream or vision of drinking from a clean fountain, it is a picture that wherever you are receiving your ministry from at the moment is where God wants you to be. You are receiving life and good teaching.

Negative: On the other side though, if the water is dirty, then the Lord is warning you that the teaching and impartation you are receiving is contaminated.

• If the fountain is dirty or bitter, it is a picture that there is something wrong in your life. Your spirit is contaminated with bitterness, and bad teaching and spiritual impartations.

• If you tend to travel around just receiving from anyone, it is quite possible that you have received a curse along the way.

• If you still hold bitterness in your heart towards anyone, this is contaminating your spirit! Not only is it holding you back from entering into an intimate relationship with the Lord, but it will contaminate others you try to minister to.

• Dreaming or seeing a vision of a dirty foundation is a warning to you. You need to deal with the things that are contaminating your spirit.

In the earthly paradise, four rivers start from the center—from the foot of the Tree of Life—and are separated according to the four directions marked by the cardinal points. Consequently, they spring from the same source, which symbolizes the center and origin of any activity. Jung associated the fountain to the source of inner life and spiritual energy. Also, he related it to the “country of childhood” in the unconscious directions are received, and stated that the need of the fountain mainly arises when vital impulses are inhibited. In oneiric terms, dreams in which fountains are present highlight a desire for regeneration and purification. Additionally, its waters’ quality reveal the status of your emotional relationships. So, if you drink from clear water fountain it indicates that you will satisfy physical, spiritual, or emotional needs; you will also achieve success. But if the fountain is dry or its waters are murky your love is withering. (See WATER)
