The Curious Dreamer’s Dream Dictionary

by Nancy Wagaman
An enemy (someone who is “against” you or whom you’re “against”) can represent: A real, imagined, or feared person in your life.

A general concept that you’re against or afraid of, or that you feel is antagonistic to you or your well-being.

Feeling “against something” or “against someone” (feeling ill will toward them) can mean you feel that way about them in real life.

Consider what you’re feeling “against” in the dream and what those feelings might represent in your real life or your mind, such as: feeling angry at or disliking the person, wanting them to do poorly in order for you to gain something, seeing yourself as different from them, wanting to distance yourself from them, judging characteristics in them because you actually judge those characteristics in yourself.

A Dictionary of Dream Symbols

(1) An enemy coulçi be a real-life enemy.

If so, look for some way of coming to terms with the situation, either by removing yourself from it or by mending the situation - which may involve ‘having it out’ with the other person.

(2) The enemy may be something within yourself. Is there some inner conflict that needs resolving? See also Alien, section (3), Fight(ing).

The enemy in your dream may be those qualities or parts of your psyche that have been neglected: what Jung calls “the shadow5. This appears as the conscious ego’s antagonist because it is struggling to assert its right to participate in your conscious life. Only by letting it do so can you attain personal wholeness.

If one sees an enemy invading a land in a dream, it means that a destructive flood will devastate that place. Ifone’s enemy confides to him or pleases him in a dream, it means that he will suffer distress and adversities. Ifone is captured for a ransom by his enemy in a dream, it means that he indulges in sins and that he is a hostage of his own sins.
