My Dream Interpretation

by myjellybean
In dreams, dams (the kind that hold back water) represent the dreamer’s pent-up emotions.

If you dream of visiting a dam, you have very strong emotions (possibly sexual) that are raging within you and need to be released. You have been trying to repress feelings that cannot be held inside forever. Or, maybe you know you need to tell someone something important but you are having trouble getting up the nerve to say it.

If you dream of a dam breaking, this symbolizes that you are having difficulty containing your desires and feelings - you are almost at the breaking point. This dream is a signal to open up and let yourself go, because it will be a huge relief and a positive thing for you. It can also be a sign that you should accept your feelings as normal and real, and stop trying to be something or someone that doesn’t suit you.

1- When we dream of a dam its significance may vary. We may be bottling up our own emotions and drive, or conversely we could be trying to stop somebody else’s emotional outburst from happening.

To be building a dam indicates we arc likely to be putting up defences, whereas if a dam is bursting we may feel we have no control over emotional situations around us.

2- While on a conscious level we may need to exercise control over our emotions, in dream sequences we will often allow ourselves a natural expression of difficulty or frustration that can be symbolised by an overflow of water.

3- By word association to be damned.

The Big Dictionary of Dreams

Dreaming of a water dam may mean that you have retained some emotions inside that need to get out.

If you see a dam burst, then it means that you have lost control and perhaps you have unleashed your fury too much. Emotions run over you. A good solution is to be kind and express your feelings in a gentle and controlled manner.

Victorian books about dreams interpret obstructions, hindrances, and obstacles as harbingers of problems that will occur soon. Dams, therefore, fall into this category.
