A change, but often with much vulnerability; an obstacle, usually of a feeling nature, to overcome. Maybe fear or uncertainty causes us to be unable to make the change, so we dream of a bridge giving way. Such changes often are to do with major life junctures, such as from youth to adulthood, prepuberty to adolescence, single to married, young to middle age. Sometimes it can be a trial or test such as initiation. Crossing a river or chasm: feelings about death.

1- To dream of crossing a road is recognising the possibility of danger, fear or uncertainty. We are perhaps pitting ourselves against the majority, or something that is bigger than us.

2- We may encounter something we cannot control, and which may control us.

To be crossing a field shows we could have a false sense of security, or may need to bring our feelings out into the open.

3- Crossing a river or chasm often depicts death, not necessarily a physical death but possibly spiritual change.

(1) Crossing a river may symbolize a decisive change of attitude; making a crucial decision.

(2) Crossing the sea, going from one country to another, may symbolize a fundamental personal re-orientation; perhaps leaving conventional values behind in favour of values discovered within oneself.
