There is RAM, or desktop memory, that is like your conscious mind. This includes your daily production of short-term memory that is processed each night when you dream. The process that occurs during REM sleep is much like backing up your computer files for protection on a daily basis.

The state of affairs in your dream computer may very well be mirroring the state of affairs in your current thought patterns.
