The Bedside Dream Dictionary

by Silvana Amar
Most often the button in your dream is a button on a piece of clothing, rather than a button that you push. Button or buttons on clothing represent something from your physical, or outer, self . Note if you were buttoning or unbuttoning, and, from there, attempt to obtain meaning. Unbuttoning generally represents an opening up of your emotions or ideas. You may be leaving yourself open to new possibilities as you are letting go of old thoughts and ways of doing things. Alternatively and on a positive side, buttoning up may reflect a need to conserve and to pull inward, to “button” your lip or to restrain yourself in some way.

The more negative interpretation of buttoning up may be that you are currently feeling bound, restricted, or lacking some type of freedom.

The Complete Dream Book

by Gillian Holloway
Finding a button is an omen of good luck in business or in love.

Losing one foretells extreme embarrassment or other vexatious, though not necessarily serious happening, in connection with an affair you may have.

Sewing on buttons—particularly if the garment is an item of underwear—points to happiness, honor and wealth.

Using, for buttoning up, is an indication of the successful termination of your highest ambition. Unbuttoning foretells that you will shortly begin an important enterprise that may hamper or postpone a projected marriage.

Ten Thousand Dream Interpretation

by Gustavus Hindman Miller

To a youth, it signifies admittance to military honors and a bright career. Dull, or cloth buttons, denotes disappointments and systematic losses and ill health.

The loss of a button, and the consequent anxiety as to losing a garment, denotes prospective losses in trade.
