Armour

Armour may symbolize efforts to protect ourselves against emotions that fill us with anxiety. Whereas the armour on an animal or a tank protect against external dangers, the armour-plating we construct is a defence against internal threats. Needless to say, such construction is misdirected labour: the ‘foes’ within must be disarmed, but this can be done only by accepting them, which means, first, acknowledging their existence, and secondly, entering into dialogue with them, giving them a fully sympathetic hearing.

1- We need to be aware of e motional and intellectual rigidity in either ourselves or others around us.

If we are in armour we may be overprotecting o ursclves, whereas if others are in armour we may be overly aware of their defence mechanisms.

2- We may be protecting ourselves from something we feci is threatening us. Our way of protecting ourselves may, however, be outdated and inappropriate in the present circumstances.

3- Armour signifies chivalry, protection and the need to protect or be protected.

Psychological / emotional perspective: We may be protecting ourselves from something we feel is threatening us. In today’s climate of terror, to be wearing body armour suggests trying to protect ourselves against the wrongdoing and aggressive actions of others or against our own fears.
