The Big Dictionary of Dreams
by Martha ClarkeIt is often a recurrent dream, especially, while dieting or for individuals that are trying to overcome an addiction. It represents the enormous effort the dreamer is exerting in order to achieve their goal. Sometimes, a former smoker dreams that he holds a cigar and, without even realizing, has smoked half of it. Frequently, the dream ends violently. The dreamer wakes up terrified, feeling that all her effort was in vain. This type of dream seems to be a signal from the unconscious not to trust your self-control entirely and remain alert to avoid falling back into such a vice.
